President 2018
Felix Farley
Felix studies BSc Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Economics. He has worked in politics and in philanthropy in Australia. In recent months he has worked on the first Australian Initial Coin Offering (ICO) for blockchain startup Power Ledger, which is pioneering the peer-to-peer evolution of energy exchange. Felix intends on following his BSc studies at the LSE with a MSc in Data Science, focusing on the public sector applications of blockchain and AI.

Beatrice Hardy
Beatrice is currently pursuing an MSc in Management at the London School of Economics after graduating from The University of Edinburgh with a BEng in Chemical Engineering with Management. She joined an early-stage nuclear engineering startup during her undergraduate studies and then proceed to co-founded an internet startup after graduation. She has also been involved in various consulting projects, both during and after her undergraduate degree, spending 6 months at Bow&Arrow, a strategy consulting firm focused on providing clients with innovative solutions. She is passionate about business growth, innovative strategies and bringing new technology to market. In particular, she is interested in the potential of AI on improving supply chain efficiencies.

Mark Lindberg
Currently undertaking a Global MSc in Management at the London School of Economics. Before starting at LSE, I was Project Manager of the inaugural China-Britain AI Summit held in London in September 2017. I am passionate about technology as a medium of international cooperation, particularly between the UK and China given the obvious synergies between the two countries, especially in the AI space. My employment history also includes working in China-UK market entry, as well as the insurance and banking industry in China. In a sentence, I am fluent in Chinese language and culture, passionate about technology and excited for the future.

Gabriel Chua
Gabriel is finishing his undergraduate degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science where he reads Economics. Gabriel has served on the executive committee of the university’s United Nations Society, Singapore Society, and Outdoor Adventure Club. Additionally, he launched Lectures+, an initiative to augment the lecture experience with technology and to promote interdisciplinary thinking. Gabriel recently completed a research internship at the Centre for Strategic Futures, a foresight think tank based in the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore. As an aspiring civil servant, Gabriel is interested in the intersection between technology and public policy.

Sana Riaz
Sana studies BSc Business, Mathematics and Statistics at the London school of Economics. She is particularly interested in learning about the use of artificial intelligence in the finance industry. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in finance. One of her main passions outside of academia is photography.

Peter Brejza
Peter is currently reading for a MSc in Information Science at UCL after recently attaining a BSc in Information Systems & Management. His interests include learning new programming languages, artificial intelligence, data science and information security. Peter has experience working in software testing, marketing & I.T organisations, however he is now attempting to focus more on individual projects. In the future, he plans to do a PhD in Information Systems and Innovation at LSE. He also enjoy music, running and riding motorcycles.

Jiong Wei
Jiong Wei is a penultimate year undergraduate in BSc Government and Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is interested in the potential of applied machine learning and AI to automate processes, uncover hidden insights and unlock value for businesses. Jiong Wei has recently completed an internship at Arcstone, a Singapore-based SaaS manufacturing analytics company. He is also currently the Education Lead at the LSESU Machine Learning Society.

Douwe van der Stroom
Douwe studied BSc Economics and Management with a major in Econometrics at King’s College London and is currently doing an MSc Technology Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management at the Imperial College London Business School. His interests include corporate sustainability, disruptive technology and international politics. He has spent a lot of time in and around Silicon Valley, worked in diplomacy and for a variety of MNC’s including Unilever, Starbucks and Coca-Cola Enterprises. As for the future, he aims to broaden his horizons in the field of technology and pursue a career in strategy consulting.

Lazarus studies BA Geography at the LSE and aspires to be an urban planner working at the intersections of technology and city building. He used to work as an analyst for the leading company-builder Entrepreneur First, where he did research on technology trends in emerging start-up ecosystems. He is most excited about the implications of autonomous vehicles, virtual reality and AI on urban development, and hopes to be part of the big changes to happen in this sector.

Zeyad is currently a first year BSc Information Management For Business student at UCL. He is also a UCL Fintech society first-year executive. Zeyad has recently attended a 2-week summer internship at Blackrock and his interests include technology, entrepreneurship, and comedy.”

Alessandro Scaglia
Alessandro is majoring in Mechanical Engineering at UCL with a minor in intelligent systems. His research on applied machine learning aims at developing a deep convolutional neural network able to detect ischaemia from the electromagnetic impulses emitted by heart cells. He has worked at the Italian start-up e-novia that applies AI in multiple sectors including collaborative robots and automated deliveries. He is also the President and co-founder of the UCL Artificial Intelligence society. Alessandro plans to pursue graduate studies in the field of machine intelligence.

Ciel Wong
Ciel is currently a 2nd Year BSc Management undergraduate at LSE. Originally from Singapore, he is interested in understanding how they work, especially with intriguing and complex systems such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Neural Networks. In addition, his interests within the realm of AI and tech lie in the philosophical aspect and moral intricacies associated with them. He intends to deepen his knowledge and expand his networks within the AI and tech industry, and score opportunities within tech start-ups and established enterprises as future career plans. Other pet hobbies include psychology, metaphysics, history, dancing and singing.

Crystal is currently studying BSc Government and Economics at the LSE.
Her passion lies in digital innovation, market growth hacking and business creating shared value. As a person who feels deeply about cities, she is also an avid traveller creating travel vlogs and shooting videos of urban life. Upon graduation, Crystal hopes to pursue a career in venture capital focus in impact investing and international collaborative projects.

Livia is currently undertaking a Msci in Neuroscience at University College London. She has experience working as a Java(Fx) programming intern for a Neuroeconomics laboratory at Peking University, Beijing. She is also part of the UCL AI society. Her interests in this field involve the application of neuroscience in AI and the subsequent application of AI in health.

Gijs Leenders
After completing his BA in International Development Studies and Management at McGill University in Montreal, and working with Google in their EMEA HQ in Dublin, Gijs has recently arrived in London to undertake an MSc in International Public Policy at UCL. He aspires to complement his commercial experience with an understanding of the research skills and methodologies involved in policymaking. His interests include existential risk, effective altruism and sustainability. As an aspiring researcher and public policy practitioner, Gijs intends to work on the implementation of AI in the intersection of the public and the private sectors.

David Handscomb
David is currently a first year student studying Finance at LSE. Having spent a year at EY he has gained exposure to a wide range of industries including technology. He is interested in the uses of artificial intelligence and machine learning in Fintech to shape the sector.

Matthias Witt
Matthias is a postgraduate student at the LSE. Prior to that, he studied Business and Economics with a Finance concentration at Humboldt University in Berlin and Duke in the United States. Matthias is especially excited about blockchain applications and the use of AI and Big Data in the health sector. In his spare time, he enjoys London and Berlin’s architecture, museums and galleries.

George Thompson
George is a third year BSc Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method student at the London School of Economics and Political Science, minoring in Political Theory. He specialises in analytic philosophy of science and the philosophy of mind, taking a particular interest in its bearing on the practice of cognitive science research. He is also an experienced musician and aspires to join the civil service upon graduation.
